PLANNED LANE CLOSURES, TEMPORARY OVERNIGHT DETOUR FOR SIGN STRUCTURE INSTALLATION ON WESTBOUND TEMPLE AVENUE IN COLONIAL HEIGHTS
Overhead sign structure installation continues this week on Temple Ave., with a temporary westbound closure and detour planned overnight Monday
Project update:
Crews continue overhead sign structure installation and paving along Temple Avenue. Overnight Monday, July 24, weather permitting, crews will temporarily close the westbound lanes of Temple Avenue between Conduit Road and I-95 from 8 p.m.-6 a.m. to install an overhead sign structure. The structure will be lifted directly over the westbound travel lanes, which will be temporarily closed for drivers’ safety. Drivers can follow the short posted detour.
Monday, July 24
Temple Ave./Rt. 144 west (Colonial Heights) – All westbound lanes will be temporarily closed to through traffic between Conduit Road and I-95 from 8 p.m.-6 a.m. for an overhead sign structure installation. Crews will temporarily close the roadway for drivers’ safety while the sign is lifted into place. The road will reopen immediately following installation. Drivers can follow the short posted detour:
• Take Conduit Road north to Ellerslie Avenue west to the Boulevard south back to Temple Avenue.
Temple Ave./Rt. 144 east (Colonial Heights) – The eastbound left lane will be closed between I-95 and Conduit Road from 8 p.m.-6 a.m. for an overhead sign structure installation. The right lane will remain open.

Project information
The Virginia Department of Transportation (VDOT) is improving the interchange at the I-95 ramps and Temple Ave. in Colonial Heights. The project will replace the existing interchange with a roundabout and extend the interstate ramps to improve safety and smooth traffic flow.
