Project update:
Crews continue signal and light pole installation and paving along Temple Avenue. Overnight Monday, July 17, weather permitting, crews will temporarily close Temple Avenue east/west between I-95 and the Boulevard from 10 p.m.-3 a.m. to install an overhead sign structure. The structure will be lifted directly over the travel lanes, which will be temporarily closed for drivers’ safety. Drivers can follow the short posted detour.
Friday, July 14:
Ridge Road (Colonial Heights) - A portion of Ridge Rd. will be closed to through traffic for paving from 8 p.m.-6 a.m. Residents will be able to access homes, but some driveways may be inaccessible during this time. Field crews will arrange for nearby parking for affected residents.
Monday, July 17
Temple Ave./Rt. 144 east/west (Colonial Heights) – All lanes will be temporarily closed to through traffic between the Boulevard and I-95 from 10 p.m.-3 a.m. for an overhead sign structure installation. Crews will temporarily close the roadway for drivers’ safety while the sign is lifted into place. The road will reopen immediately following installation. Drivers can follow the short posted detour:
- Take the Boulevard (Rt. 1) north to Ellerslie Avenue east to Conduit Road south back to Temple Avenue.

Thursday, July 20
Temple Ave./Rt. 144 west (Colonial Heights) – The westbound right lane will be closed between Hamilton Ave. to I-95 from 8 a.m.-3:30 p.m. for paving and sign installation work. All ramps will remain open and accessible during this work.
Friday, July 21
Temple Ave./Rt. 144 east/west (Colonial Heights) – The right lanes will be closed in both directions between Hamilton Ave. to I-95 from 8 p.m.-6 a.m. for paving and sign installation work. All ramps will remain open and accessible during this work.

Project information
The Virginia Department of Transportation (VDOT) is improving the interchange at the I-95 ramps and Temple Ave. in Colonial Heights. The project will replace the existing interchange with a roundabout and extend the interstate ramps to improve safety and smooth traffic flow.
