‘Weekender’ combines, expands Friday, Saturday papers into one

PETERSBURG − Big changes are on tap for The Progress-Index’s print and online editions. A comprehensive review of products coupled with a readers’ survey have spearheaded improvements.

Beginning Friday, Sept. 13, The Progress-Index will launch the P-I Weekender.” This expanded issue published on Friday will combine the Friday and Saturday editions into an enlarged weekend package. The Weekender will be packed with the local coverage readers have come to expect from their community newspaper, but a great deal more. The issue will feature a new section, Bargain Bill’s Trader, with over 2,000 local items for sale, church news, more national sports, plus more in-depth state and national news. Great extras like puzzles, entertainment news, features of local faces and places will round out this comprehensive package.

While the combined issue will eliminate the Saturday delivery, there is no stopping news when it happens. That’s why up-to-date local news, entertainment and sports coverage will be available seven days a week on www.progress-index.com. That includes breaking news and updates will be posted Saturday as well. The service is free to subscribers and available to non-subscribers by calling 804-722-5108.

The Weekender will lead readers into the weekend. The improved Sunday edition will add to the readers’ experience with engaging new features. Sunday will now include Travel, Health, Home, Time & Money, Movies & TV, and Food pages. The new line-up is in direct response to requests from our recent readers’ survey.

That means more news, features and entertainment more often.

Please note that even with these improvements, subscription rates and expiration dates will remain the same. No increased subscription our advertising costs are attached to the changes. That means readers are not paying more to get more.

Community journalism depends on community support. These changes are part of a continued effort by The Progress-Index to bring the communities in the region the best in comprehensive coverage.
