Recap of the August 13 BOS Meeting


BOS Approves Employment Contract for New County Attorney

After presenting the former County Attorney, Steve Micas, with a commendation for his 10 years of service to Prince George County earlier in the evening, the Board of Supervisors at its August 13 meeting voted unanimously to approve an employment contract for the new County Attorney.

Daniel H. Whitten will assume the responsibility of County Attorney for Prince George County on September 16, 2019.  Mr. Whitten comes to Prince George from Front Royal, Virginia where he served as County Attorney for Warren County.   The County has agreed to pay Mr. Whitten an annual salary of $117,300.

  • Received a report on Adult Services Center.
  • Received a report on Fire and EMS Apparatus.
  • Discussed a Dog Waste Ordinance.
  • Approved on consent and presented a commendation to Brenda Johnson for her service to Prince George County.
  • Approved on consent and presented a commendation to Yoti Jabri for receiving the You are the One Employee Recognition Award.
  • Approved on consent and presented a commendation to Tristan McMillan for receiving the You are the One Employee Recognition Award.
  • Approved on consent a commendation to Chief Deputy Mark T. Payne for his service to Prince George County.
  • Approved on consent and presented a commendation to Communications Officer Sherita A. Winfield and Officer Thomas J. Milazzo for receiving You are the One Employee Recognition Award.
  • Approved on consent and presented a commendation to Steve Micas for his service to Prince George County.
  • Received a maintenance report from the Virginia Department of Transportation.
  • Received an update on the Rural Broadband Project.
  • Received a report on the Back to School Fair.
  • Unanimously voted to send back to the Planning Commission for further review an Ordinance Amendment relating to regulating signs in various zoning districts.
  • Unanimously approved an Award of Contract for the Blackwater Swamp Wastewater Treatment Plant Permitting and Analysis.
  • Unanimously approved a re-appropriation in the amount of $1,118,394.28 for outstanding encumbrances and purchase orders.
  • Unanimously approved an acceptance of the dedication of a utility easement at Oak Shades Mobile Home Park.
  • Unanimously approved an Award of Contract in the amount of $227,793 for architectural and engineering services for the New Jefferson Park Fire Station.
  • Unanimously approved a resolution increasing the size of the Parks and Recreation Commission from seven members to nine members.
  • Unanimously approved a resolution for increases in pay for Communication Officers to address pay compression.
  • Unanimously approved revisions to the School Revenue Sharing Memorandum of Understanding.
  • Unanimously approved an award of contract and appropriation from Tourism Fund Balance in the amount of $48,404 for County Welcome Signs.
  • Unanimously appointed T. J. Webb, Andy Petik, Don Vtipil, and Larry Barnett to the CIP Committee.
  • Unanimously reappointed Charlotte Siebert and Jim Schillinger to the Social Services Advisory Board.
  • Unanimously approved the appointment of the Comprehensive Services Community Policy and Management Team Members.
  • Held a public hearing and unanimously approved the conveyance of an easement to Dominion Energy to extend electrical service in Scott Park.
  • Held a public hearing and unanimously approved a Special Exception request of Beacon Towers (d/b/a AT&T) to construct a 199-foot monopole communication tower.
  • Held a public hearing and unanimously approved a rezoning request of Blair E. Gilliam.
