Hopewell high speed chase ends in passenger being shot

HOPEWELL, Va. -- One man is in police custody after a 911 call regarding a carjacking ended with a person being shot on Highway 36 in Hopewell.

Around 5 p.m. on Thursday, Virginia State Police received an advisory to be on the lookout for a black colored Lexus with North Carolina plates that was carjacked in Stafford County.

A Virginia State Police trooper saw the vehicle traveling southbound I-295 at the 41 mile marker in Hanover County.  The trooper tried to initiate a traffic stop, but the driver refused and initiated a pursuit.

The Lexus then took exit  9A in Hopewell and two suspects ran out of the car.

"This guy jumped out of an SUV and came running across 36 when he did I almost hit him. It took me a few seconds to process what was going on but he had a very big gun," one witness said.

Crime Insider sources say that a woman's car was hit by bullets, but that she continued driving, later reporting the incident in Henrico.

Troopers say another shot hits a man driving an SUV, his injuries non-life-threatening

A suspect was then taken into custody without further incident and a handgun was secured at the scene

State troopers, Hopewell Police, and Prince George Police are all on scene.

This is a developing story.
