Community Emergency Response Teams (CERT) Training Opportunity
The Prince George County CERT team volunteers will be holding training classes starting September 12 and ending on November 7, 2019. The course is open to individuals who are interested in learning the skills to be a useful CERT volunteer and team member. It is eight (8) weeks long and will be held on Thursday evenings from 6 pm to 9 pm at the Oakland Baptist Church meeting room. Please call the Prince George County of Emergency Management at (804) 722-8614 and ask to be added to the list to be notified about the course.
CERT educates individuals about disaster preparedness for hazards that may impact their area and trains them in basic disaster response skills, such as fire safety, light search and rescue, team organization, and disaster medical operations. Using training learned in the classroom and during exercises, CERT volunteers can assist others in their community following a disaster when professional responders are not immediately available to help. CERT volunteers are also encouraged to support emergency response agencies by taking an active role in emergency preparedness projects. Go to https://www.fema.gov/community-emergency-response-teams for more information on CERT programs.
Please join the Prince George County CERT team volunteers and learn how to help in a disaster situation!
Training is offered through the Prince George Local Emergency Planning Committee (PG LEPC). For more information on the PG LEPC, visit https://www.princegeorgecountyva.gov/public_safety/local_emergency_planning_committee.php.
