PG Food Bank hosts annual cookout

PRINCE GEORGE — The Prince George Food Bank hosted their 5th annual Prince George County Cookout yesterday at the Scott Memorial Park pavilion.

County Food Bank Director Andrea Barnes shared, “We have been happily hosting this cookout for five years.

“The purpose is...I want to thank the county and all its employees for what they do for the food bank. The County Administrator Percy Ashcraft couldn’t be here today, but he loves how the volunteers and I serve lunch to the fire department, EMTs, maintenance, police department and other county employees to show our appreciation,” said Barnes.

Diners enjoyed listening to tunes played by DJ Dr. Smooth while they ate a variety of food prepared by food bank volunteers.

Prince George Sheriff’s Deputy Anita Stell shared, “This is really nice for them to do this for us. The food bank is an awesome program.

“I see that it’s a lot of work and takes a lot of energy...and, they have it,” added Stell.

“We try to do what we can for the food bank throughout the year, and it’s very nice that they show their appreciation this way,” stated Mike Mitchell with the PG County General Services.”

Barnes’ assistant Leon Parham, while frying farm-grown catfish, shared, “I love this, the food bank and all. I always like to help people.

“We love doing this for the county. They support us, and we want to show them we care,” said Parham.
