A North Carolina man in his stopped car on Interstate 95 was killed early Tuesday morning when he was struck from behind by a tractor trailer.
The Virginia State Police said Christ M. Vagotis, 75, of the 800 block of Lowdale Drive, Reidsville, N.C., died in the 1:33 a.m. accident on southbound I-95 at mile marker 36.5 in Prince George County.
The trooper's preliminary investigation shows that a 2019 Chevrolet Cruze, driven by Vagotis, was stationary in the right lane when a 1996 Peterbuilt tractor trailer traveling south on I-95 in the right lane struck Vagotis in the rear. He died at the scene. The male driver of the tractor trailer was not injured.
State police said the crash remains under investigation with the assistance of the Virginia State Police Crash Reconstruction Team.
