(Prince George, VA) – Police Investigates Shooting Update
On December 13, 2018, at approximately 12:10 p.m., members of the Prince George County Police Department responded to the 3800 block of Puddledock Road in an attempt to locate a male individual wanted on an indictment related to the production of child pornography. Once on scene, an officer observed the suspect standing outside of his residence. As the officer began a dialogue with him, the suspect retrieved a handgun from his clothing. As the suspect turned away from the officer, gunfire was heard. The officer subsequently discovered the suspect lying on the ground with an apparent self-inflicted gunshot wound. The involved officer did not discharge his service weapon.
On 12/14/18, the suspect identified as James Paul Berry III, age 62, of Prince George passed away at Chippenham Hospital from a self-inflicted gunshot wound. Mr. Berry was transported to the Medical Examiner’s Office in Richmond, Virginia for official cause of death.
The Prince George Commonwealth Attorney’s Office will be working with Debra Corcoran, the defendant’s counsel concerning the disposal of the charges at this time.
