Authorities say the man first pointed his gun at officers, then turned it on himself; investigation alleges he also shot at his wife in their house.
PRINCE GEORGE -- County police said a man shot and killed himself Sunday morning in front of authorities after they were called to his house for a report of a domestic disturbance involving a weapon.
Officer Alexis Grochmal said the incident happened around 11:35 a.m. in the 2900 block of Morrell Avenue. When police arrived, they found a 60-year-old man standing in the driveway holding a gun. Grochmal said when officers told the man to drop his weapon, he first pointed it at them before turning the gun on himself. Police did not fire at him, Grochmal said.
The man was pronounced dead at the scene.
According to the police investigation, the man and his wife had been arguing when he pulled a gun and shot at her as she ran into a bedroom. The man allegedly then ran outside and fired a second shot through the window. Grochmal said the woman was not injured by either shot and was able to flee to a neighbor’s house.
Grochmal said the body was taken to the state medical examiner’s office in Richmond for an autopsy. The investigation is continuing, she added.
