Portsmouth native Trey Wilson will be the radio voice of the Richmond Flying Squirrels next season, as well as the director of communications and broadcasting.
Wilson, 29, has experience in the Double-A Eastern League, where the Squirrels are a member. He spent the past four seasons as the play-by-play voice for the EL’s Altoona Curve.
He began his career with the Bluefield Blue Jays in 2013 and called the Lansing Lugnuts in 2014. He also has worked college sports and high school state championship events in Virginia.
Wilson graduated from Bluefield College in 2013 and served there as assistant director of new media and sports information.
“I am beyond excited to come back to my home state and join one of the top organizations in the game of baseball,” Wilson said in a release. “Richmond is an incredible city, and the Flying Squirrels have a passionate fan base. I can’t wait to get started.”
Wilson replaces Jay Burnham, who left after six seasons to become the play-by-play broadcaster for the University of Massachusetts men’s basketball team.
