PRINCE GEORGE — The Prince George Master Gardeners, Virginia Cooperative Extension and Prince George Farmers Market hosted the 2018 Greater Tomato Contest on Saturday, July 28, 2018 at the Prince George Farmers Market. Eleven tomatoes were entered and winners were declared in four categories and two age groups. The categories were Heaviest Tomato, Tiniest Tomato, Naturally Beautiful Tomato and Unusual/Ugliest Tomato.

Winners in the children’s age group were Gracie Grizzard for Heaviest Tomato, Andrea R. Shockley for Tiniest Tomato, Lily Fischer for Naturally Beautiful Tomato and Charlie Smith for Unusual/Ugliest Tomato.

Winners in the adult age group were Robbie Callis for Heaviest Tomato and Unusual/Ugliest Tomato, Larue and Junie Archer for Tiniest Tomato and Sally Sedivy for Naturally Beautiful Tomato. The winners were announced by Scott Reiter, extension agent. The prizes are bragging rights for growing the “greatest” tomato, blue ribbons, certificates and more.
