OUR PARKS

Each park is available to the public from dawn to dusk each day. Alcoholic beverages are prohibited.

Pavilion Reservations: County citizens, businesses, and organizations may reserve pavilion facilities through the Parks and Recreation Department. Park reservations must be made in the Parks and Recreation office. Pavilions are reserved for ½-day either from dawn to 3pm or 3pm to dusk, in an effort to accommodate as many groups as possible. Full-day reservations exceptions may be made upon request. Self-cleanup required. Call 804-458-6164 for more information.


Appomattox River Regional Park

Prince George County’s newest park, located between I-295 and the Riverside Regional Jail on River Road, is 65 acres with wooded trails and an observation pier, a kayak and canoe launch, an education center/ pavilion, restrooms, and additional green space on the Appomattox River.

The park was developed in partnership with Friends of the Lower Appomattox River (FOLAR). The central mission of FOLAR is to conserve and protect the Appomattox River for all to enjoy, the means to this end focuses on a bigger picture that involves developing awareness, cooperation, community support, and overall economic growth of the region. Scott Memorial Park

Scott Memorial Park is 60 acres, featuring a large pavilion, picnic tables, restrooms, a playground, two baseball/softball fields, five Bermuda grass soccer fields, and Tree Time Adventures Zipline Park.

Temple Recreation Park

Temple Recreation Park features 32 acres with one large and one small pavilion with picnic tables, restrooms, a nature and jogging trail, tennis courts, a softball field, a soccer field, and a basketball court.

James River National Wildlife Refuge

The refuge offers important breeding and roosting habitat for resident and migrating eagles. In addition, the 4,400-acre refuge supports hundreds of native plant and animal species in the forests, wetlands, and grasslands.

Visitor Activities
To visit James River National Wildlife Refuge, reservations are required 72 hours in advance of the proposed visit. Requests can be made at 804-829-9020 or Fw5rw_evrnwr@fws.gov.

White-Tailed Deer Hunting
White-tailed deer hunting is allowed by refuge permit only. Archery, muzzleloader, and shotgun seasons are offered annually. Participants of the 3-week refuge archery season are selected by lottery. Hunters can apply for the hunt through Virginia’s Lottery system GoOutdoorsVirginia.com during the summer application period. Application costs are $7.50 and, if selected, a $50.00 season hunt permit fee is required. Hunters wishing to participate in the two muzzleloader and four shotgun dates are selected on a first come, first served basis on the days of the hunts. These hunts are for stand hunting only and the use of dogs is prohibited. Registration occurs on-site at the Check Station. A one-day permit costs $10.00.

OUR RIVERS

The owner of a watercraft must apply for a Certificate of Title at the same time application is made for a Certificate of Number (Registration). The Application for Watercraft Certificate of Title and Certificate of Number form is available from most watercraft dealers, the Department of Game and Inland Fisheries’ Headquarters and Regional Offices, and agents who sell hunting and fishing licenses. In addition to other information, an application for title and registration requires a detailed description of the watercraft that includes the make, length, model year, type of vessel, hull material, type of propulsion, and the twelve character hull identification number; the make, horsepower, and a serial number of the motor if in excess of 25 horsepower; and the name and address of the lienholder, if any.


FOLAR (Friends of the Lower Appomattox River) River Trail
The Appomattox River is a Virginia State Scenic River and runs over 20 miles from the dam at Lake Chesdin to the confluence with the James River in Hopewell. Point of access for the Appomattox River in Prince George County includes Appomattox Boat Harbor and Appomattox River Regional Park.
