UPCOMING TRAFFIC SHIFT FOR I-95 TEMPLE AVE. INTERCHANGE IMPROVEMENTS PROJECT

Traffic in both directions will be shifted to the right of current lane locations at the interchange

Project update and traffic shift information:
Rapid progress continues on the I-95/Temple Ave. interchange improvements project, with crews grading, continuing curb and drainage work and paving along Temple Avenue and the I-95 ramps for the latest traffic shift. Starting Wednesday, Sept. 13, weather permitting, traffic on Temple Avenue in both directions will be shifted to the right of the current travel lanes. Once the new traffic shift is in place, crews will begin work on the center and splitter islands to further shape the roundabout at the intersection over the next few weeks. Weather permitting, the new roundabout configuration will be in place in early October.

Monday, Sept. 11
Temple Ave. (Rt. 144) east/west (Colonial Heights) – Alternating lanes will be closed between Conduit Rd. and Hamilton Ave. from 8:30 a.m.-3:30 p.m. for drainage work and paving.

Tuesday, Sept. 12
Temple Ave. (Rt. 144) east/west (Colonial Heights) – Alternating lanes will be closed between Conduit Rd. and Hamilton Ave. from 8:30 a.m.-3:30 p.m. for drainage work and paving.

I-95 north/south on/off ramps – Alternating lanes will be closed on the ramps at the I-95/Temple Ave. interchange from 8 p.m. Tuesday-6 a.m. Wednesday for drainage work and paving.

Temple Ave./Route 144 east/west – Alternating lanes will be closed 8:30 p.m. Tuesday-6 a.m. Wednesday between Conduit Rd. and Hamilton Ave. in preparation for the upcoming traffic shift. Drivers are encouraged to use caution and follow the signs and pavement markings through the new travel pattern.

Wednesday, Sept. 13
Temple Ave. (Rt. 144) east/west (Colonial Heights) – Alternating lanes will be closed between Conduit Rd. and Hamilton Ave. from 8:30 a.m.-3:30 p.m. for drainage work and paving.

I-95 north/south on/off ramps – Alternating lanes will be closed on the ramps at the I-95/Temple Ave. interchange from 8 p.m. Wednesday-6 a.m. Thursday for drainage work and paving.

Thursday, Sept. 14
Temple Ave. (Rt. 144) east/west (Colonial Heights) – Alternating lanes will be closed between Conduit Rd. and Hamilton Ave. from 8:30 a.m.-3:30 p.m. for drainage work and paving.

I-95 north/south on/off ramps – Alternating lanes will be closed on the ramps at the I-95/Temple Ave. interchange from 8 p.m. Thursday-6 a.m. Friday for drainage work and paving.

Friday, Sept. 15
Temple Ave. (Rt. 144) east/west (Colonial Heights) – Alternating lanes will be closed between Conduit Rd. and Hamilton Ave. from 8:30 a.m.-3:30 p.m. for drainage work and paving.

I-95 north/south on/off ramps – Alternating lanes will be closed on the ramps at the I-95/Temple Ave. interchange from 8 p.m. Friday-6 a.m. Saturday for drainage work and paving.

Saturday, Sept. 16
Temple Ave. (Rt. 144) east/west (Colonial Heights) – Alternating lanes will be closed between Conduit Rd. and Hamilton Ave. from 8:30 a.m.-3:30 p.m. for drainage work and paving.

I-95 north/south on/off ramps – Alternating lanes will be closed on the ramps at the I-95/Temple Ave. interchange from 8 p.m. Saturday-6 a.m. Sunday for drainage work and paving.

Project information
The Virginia Department of Transportation (VDOT) is improving the interchange at the I-95 ramps and Temple Ave. in Colonial Heights. The project will replace the existing interchange with a roundabout and extend the interstate ramps to improve safety and smooth traffic flow.
