Prince George County Treasurer Jean Barker has informed the Clerk of the Circuit Court and the Board of Supervisors she will be stepping down from her post as Treasurer, effective December 31.
Barker was re-elected in November, 2015 and would still have two years left on her current term upon the time she leaves office. Her letter to the Clerk and the BOS:
"I, JEAN NUGENT BARKER have decided to retire as Treasurer on December 31,2017. It has been a true pleasure and HONOR TO SERVE AS THE TREASURER OF PRINCE GEORGE COUNTY. I love this county and willing to do anything I can to help it stay a friendly and safe county to live in. I’m looking forward to spending more time with my family and hope to travel some if possible"

The BOS will likely discuss at its next meeting on June 13 a recommendation for a Special Election date to fill the Treasurer's unexpired term. That recommendation will be made to the Circuit Court.
