Prince George County Farmers Market opens May 4 with its
Second Annual Teacher's Appreciation Event

Prince George, VA - The Prince George County Farmers Market will be opening for its twelfth season on May 4 at 6380 Scott Park Memorial Drive. The market will be open from 9 a.m. until 1 p.m. on Saturdays. Market Manager Corrie Hurt is pleased to announce that the market will continue to offer Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program (SNAP) matching incentives to customers through Virginia Fresh Match. Hurt said, “This means when you buy one, you get two. It’s a huge incentive for our customers to shop local.” The matching incentive will only be available for fresh fruits and vegetables.

To kick off the season, the market will be hosting its Second Annual Teacher’s Appreciation Event, welcoming teachers from all localities to be recognized and participate in raffles and other fun activities. Raffle prizes will be available throughout the day, with a grand prize drawing at 1 p.m. for one lucky teacher who completes their “lesson plan.” There will be a table full of free teacher supplies and materials. A valid teacher identification is necessary to participate in the raffles and receive supplies.

In addition to the SNAP match incentives, the market will continue to offer the Senior Farm Nutrition Program for residents aged 60 and older who qualify to receive $50 worth of FREE fruits and vegetables. The market will also introduce the new Power of Produce (POP) Club for children ages 3-12. Children who participate will earn vouchers to receive FREE fruits and vegetables at the market.

Throughout the season, the market will offer activities such as “Youth Entrepreneur Day,” “Family Fun Day,” “Juneteenth Day,” “Kids Day,” “First Responders Day,” “Breast Cancer Awareness Day,” “Fall Festival,” and more. Weekly story time for children with a FREE book given to every child attending, monthly FREE Kids Creations, and other events will also be offered!
